An exhibit featuring daily life in the farmyard of the Smith Plantation Home.  Original farm equipment and tools can be seen in this exhibit. This was the very first exhibit to be seen in the barn after its reconstruction.

“Behind the Smith House”

An exhibit focusing on the importance and history of hats to African American women.  Shown in conjunction with Roswell Roots and the Tea & Hat Shows.

 

The lives and times of the women who lived at the Smith Plantation Home between 1845 and 1994 are featured in this exhibit along with their clothing and some personal items.

This exhibit highlights the activities of the Smith Family during the Civil War, featuring clothing, trunks, and letters written by the Smith Family during the Civil War.

“A Victorian Mourning”

During the month of July, the Smith Home dons black and mourns the death of William Seagrove Smith, who died July 7, 1865 while serving in the Confederate Army. The exhibit highlights Victorian Mourning customs and clothing.

“Treasures and Trifles”

This exhibit features some of the thousands of artifacts stored until 2005 in the attic of the Smith Plantation Home. This exhibit demonstrates the Smith family’s tendency to save everything they owned from the trivial to the bizarre.

Smith Plantation always has something going on!  From our always popular Tea and Hat Shows to our “The Smith Family and The Civil War” Exhibit: Smith Plantation has something for everyone!

Events

In conjunction with Roswell Roots, a festival of Black History and Culture, a show, talk, and display demonstrating the importance and significance of Ladies & Their Hats!

Free fun in the fall for the whole family! Farm animals and period arts and crafts! Every October on the same day as the Roswell Youth Parade!

For Children ages 5 and up! A wonderful Holiday activity in the 1863 Cookhouse! Children get to make and bake their own gingerbread men, take home a holiday treat.

A week long camp offered to youngsters so that they can experience 19th Century Farm life. For ages 7-12  in June. Activities include old-fashioned photographs, open-hearth cooking, archeological dig, gold panning, and much more!

May 8-9, 2010

Smith Plantation is proud to exhibit fine art sculptures from local award-winning artists on Saturday, May 8 and Sunday, May 9, 2010. The exhibit, featuring works made of bronze, clay, and metal, will be on display in the home and on the grounds. Tour hours are Monday-Saturday, every hour on the hour from 10:00am-3:00pm, and Sunday 1:00-3:00pm. For more information, please call (770) 641-3978.

Mothers Day Open House

Sunday, May 9, 1-3pm

Bring mom out on her special day. Treat her to a tour of Barrington Hall, Bulloch Hall, and Smith Plantation during our annual open house. Food donations will be accepted at each house for the North Fulton Food Bank.

"Roswell's Heritage at Smith Plantation": A Standard Flower Show

Show Opens to the Public Friday, May 21 3p.m. – 5 p.m.

Saturday, May 22 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Roswell Garden Club will host a National Garden Club Standard Flower Show at Archibald Smith Plantation Home.  The Flower Show will exhibit garden club member’s floral designs depicting the wonderful multigenerational heritage of the Smith family.  Horticulture entries will educate us on plant varieties, new and historic, that will perform well in the Roswell area.  Special Exhibits will feature how the Roswell Garden Club has developed Smith’s new “Kitchen Garden”, Roswell Adult Recreation Center’s “Waist High Garden” and the work they have done with the youth in Roswell.

Admission to the Flower Show on the grounds is free. Tours of the home are $8 for adults, $7 for seniors, and $6 for children. For information please call 770-641-3978.

Camp Yesteryear
June 21-25, 2010

Children enjoy a week full of fun and learning on the beautiful grounds of the Smith Plantation in the heart of Historic Roswell.
Camp will be held June 21-25, 2010 from 10:00am-1:30pm. Activities include 19th Century Crafts, Farm life, Archaeological Dig, Native American Crafts, Open Hearth Cooking, Sewing, Soap Making, Herbs & Gardening, Painting, 19th Century Games, Gold and Gem Panning, an Animal Encounter and much more! Space is limited to 25 campers, ages 7-12. Full tuition ($150 per child) is due upon registration in order to hold a space for your camper. The Smith Plantation is proud to present an exhibit of bonnets and hats featuring 19
th Century head attire from PNJW Collections. The authentic men’s, women’s, and children’s hats will be on display demonstrating the evolution of hat styles.
